If you’re tired of having to paint the walls every time you decide to change the look of your home, wallpapers can be a practical and affordable solution. Increasingly in evidence, they have so many textures, colors and prints that it is even difficult to choose.
So, nothing better than having the help of experts! Geisa Cardoso, sales consultant and partner of the House of Wallpaper and Decorations, and the architect and decorator Camila Klein have taken away all our doubts about these real “wild cards”, capable of giving new life to the rooms. Check out!
Vinyls : they have this name because they are coated with a layer of vinyl, which gives a “plastic” texture to the material. You can clean them with neutral detergent, using a bushing or a brush. The values vary depending on the collections and manufacturers, but you can find options in the market from R $ 300 per roll (10 mx 0.53 cm).
Rubberized : This variant has a slightly “rubbery” texture due to the EVA layer coating the paper. For cleaning, follow the same instructions given to vinyls. The average price of the roll is also approximately R $ 300.
Vinilizados :because it has no coating on the paper, the texture is “smooth”, and the average durability varies between five and seven years – while the other models can last for more than ten years. Cleaning must be done with wet cloth and neutral product. The rolls are sold starting at $ 190.
T NT: the acronym stands for “nonwoven fabric”. Normally imported from countries like England and Germany, its differential is in the possibility of being removed and reinstalled in another place. To remove dirt, use a wet cloth and a bushing. The rolls can be purchased for around $ 650.
Velvet : its main feature is the texture, which provides a feeling of refinement. The models are found from R $ 1,600 the roll. Because it is a differentiated and sensitive material, cleaning must be done only with vacuum cleaner or duster.
P age:the paper is made from natural fibers of leaves, tree barks and pressed bamboo wefts. The texture has rustic style, preferred by architects in bolder designs of decoration. This model has rolls of single measures (5.5 mx 91 cm), found from $ 800. To clean, it is indicated the use of vacuum cleaner or mop.
Emboss: This paper is made with an injectable foam, which imparts a fluffy and “fluffy” texture to the material. The rolls cost around $ 680, and the cleaning should be done in the same way as the wallpapers of natural straw and velvet.
3D: can be made of rubber or vinyl materials. Its great differential is in the prints, which pass a sense of movement – for example, those with drawings of stones seem to “jump” from the paper. The average price of the roller is $ 600. As for cleaning, just use a vacuum cleaner or duster.
Mica: this wallpaper has real micas that are pressed on its surface; so they should not be wet, and the cleaner only asks for duster or vacuum cleaner. The roller can be purchased for approximately $ 1,500.
For places that are exposed to the sun, imported products resistant to sunlight are the most indicated.
If you have cats, avoid contingencies: do not choose rubberized, embossed or natural straw models as they are more vulnerable to scratches.
In more crowded environments such as corridors, choose darker colors, which will not leave the dirt so obvious.
If you’ve already chosen your favorite wallpaper, it’s time to prepare for the application. According to Geisa, the ideal is to leave this job to specialized companies, which offer labor, guarantee and quality queues.
“But if you choose to install by yourself, it is important that you have good composition skills to match the prints and splices, apply the glue and cut perfectly the pieces,” he explains. In such cases, before starting the work, make sure that the wall has no leaks, moisture or cracks, which can cause staining.
Tip: in walls with tiles, it is necessary to apply running mass before the paper is glued. For formica surfaces, in some cases, sanding is sufficient.
How to combine
Given the wide range of prints and colors, both in relation to the more expensive and accessible papers, with good sense it is possible to compose a beautiful decoration without spending much. In this sense, Camila Klein gives some suggestions that can be very useful.
In rooms, prefer lighter shades such as beige and sand. They “warm” the environment, making it more cozy and cozy.
In the dining room, explore the stronger colors, such as green and coffee, options that are fashionable.
In the living room, give preference to light tones, not to stand out in relation to the other decoration objects. In general, furniture with prints and strong colors combine with smooth and neutral papers.
Remember:just like the painted walls, you do not need to decorate the whole room. Sometimes one or two walls with paper already give a new look to the environment.
When you get sick of the wallpaper and decide to take it off, know that it’s simpler than the installation. However, this requires some care. First, find one end of the paper and pull it out. “Then mix powdered soap with water and apply it on the residue of glue. Remove it with the aid of a spatula”, teaches Geisa.
